How do I get to the park?

What are the park hours?

The park is open from dawn till dusk for public use. The paved park pathways and pedestrian bridge remain open as a public throughway at all hours.

Is there parking available?

Street parking is available along the west side of the park on Dyer Street and along the east side of the park along South Water Street. There is also paid parking at the Garrahy Courthouse Parking Garage and South Street Landing Parking Garage. 

Is there WiFi in the park?

Yes, there is free public WiFi available in the west side of the park. The network is “TakeItOutside” and you will be directed to a sign in screen upon connecting. 

Is the park ADA accessible?

Yes, the park, and associated events and programming within, strive to be accessible to all. Construction along the Riverwalk and Pedestrian Bridge will begin in the near future to improve ADA accessibility in these areas.

How big is the park?

The park is approximately 7 acres. 

Who owns the park?

The park is owned and operated by the I-195 Redevelopment District (District). In 2011, an elevated portion of Interstate 195 cutting through Providence was relocated, freeing over 26 acres of former highway land for redevelopment. The District and its oversight Commission is a quasi-public state entity created to oversee the sale, marketing and redevelopment of this land. Approximately seven acres of land was designated as open space as part of the redevelopment and is now home to 195 District Park.

What are the park rules?

Are there public restrooms?

From May to November, there are restrooms available in The Guild Beer Garden during their hours of operation. Most pop-up events or continuous programming have additional portable restrooms on-site. A permanent food and beverage pavilion is slated for future construction on the west side of the park and will include public restrooms.

Are pets allowed?

Yes! The park is a great place to walk your pet on leash. Please be sure to pick up after any pets. 

Can I eat and drink (alcohol) in the park?

Please enjoy eating in the park! We ask that you dispose of any trash in the park’s waste receptables. Alcohol can only be consumed at approved and permitted events in designated spaces. Any event with approved alcohol consumption will have a cordoned off area where alcohol is permitted.

Can I sit on the lawn in the park?

Yes! Please enjoy the lawn and be mindful of any signs that indicate if an area is under construction and is closed to the public.

How can I find out about what’s happening in the park?

Can I have a private / public event in the park?

Yes! The park is available to be used for events. Visit the Host an Event page to learn more.

Can I book an event on the pedestrian bridge?

The City of Providence operates the Michael S. Van Leesten Memorial Bridge. To learn more about events on the bridge or to contact their staff visit the Parks and Recreation page. 

Can I advertise my company or brand in the park?

If you are interested in promoting your company in the park, please get in touch via the Contact page. Promotions in the park must be approved by park staff in advance.

How do I report a maintenance or landscaping issue in the park?

If you see a maintenance or landscaping issue, we’d appreciate you using the contact form to alert park staff. Please include a photograph of the issue to better help us identify the problem. 

What is happening with all the construction in and around the park?

Much of the land surrounding the park is slated for future development. Please excuse the construction in the Innovation and Design District as these exciting new projects develop. There are also construction projects within the park that will be underway soon. These projects will improve ADA accessibility along the river walk and pedestrian bridge and build a permanent food and beverage pavilion. 

What is the art piece in the park?

The sculpture in the park is entitled “head in the clouds …… feet on the ground” and was created by Jerry Ehrlich. It was originally commissioned for PVDFest 2020 and used to reside outside of Providence City Hall before moving to the park. More of Jerry’s work can be found on his website

How can I sell concessions in the park?

Check back at the park website or the District website for future food and beverage RFP announcements or visit the state Division of Purchases page to see available opportunities.

Are there rules about photography?

Feel free to take photographs in the park. If posting images to Instagram we’d love for you to use the geotag “195 District Park” and tag us @195districtpark. Any commercial photography or filming must be permitted. Visit the contact form to inquire about commercial photography or filming.
